INTRODUCTION
Voting in India is a Constitutional right if one is a citizen over 18 years of age. However, that also makes it
optional. It has been a tendency among voters, especially in the urban areas, to treat the voting day as a day of
rest. While skipping the vote may not seem to cause any harm, the long-term consequences are disastrous.
India has indirect democracy in which, the elections play the most important role in shaping the destiny of the
people, and the people, while exercising their franchise, constitute the real source of power in the elections as
they make their choice and elect only those in whom they have faith.
This month, we at Desh Apnayen recommend a Role Play to enlighten our ACTIZENs about why elections are
important? Why should people have the necessary education and wisdom to elect only the right kind of people?
How our students can become the change agents through their small efforts?
NOTE TO THE TEACHER –
1. Distribute the script to DA ACTIZEN club members in advance to prepare the play.
2. Voluntary participation is appreciated.
3. Identify the day like school assembly or any other day where parents can be invited to witness their
children’s play.
4. If not possible in school, identify local vicinity for street play and select venue and time as per availability
of target audience.
5. Support club members in permissions and arrangements, conduct the play and share your feedback
with us.
EXPECTED OUTCOME –
Students will
1. Engage and learn an active pedagogical approach of Role play by taking part in relevant scenarios in
order to gain cognitive, affective, and/or behavioral understanding
2. Gain understanding about the importance of voting as fundamental duty and how they can participate.
